New Delhi, Nov 21 (IANS) In a major breakthrough in the ongoing crackdown on Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP) module operating in several states, Gujarat ATS sources have revealed a series of explosive findings in the interrogation of arrested operatives (who were part of the ricin poison terror plot), exposing deep-rooted radicalization and cross-border funding.
According to ATS sources, investigators have uncovered significant evidence linking ISKP activists to Pakistan-based handlers. These revelations came after a raid was conducted at the residence of ISKP suspect Mohammed Suhail in Uttar Pradesh, where officials recovered an “ISIS flag”.
Additionally, vital digital evidence was recovered in a raid at the Hyderabad residence of another ISKP suspect, Dr Ahmed Mohiuddin Syed. The investigators learned that the parcel delivered to him two months ago was sent by fellow operators Azad Suleman Shaikh and Suhail.
ATS sources confirmed that this parcel containing Rs 1.5 lakh was sent on the instructions of a Pakistani agent, who was suggesting cross-border financial facility.
An investigation is now underway to find out the source of the money and who arranged the cash for the operatives.
When Dr Ahmed was arrested in Gujarat, the ATS recovered weapons from another parcel belonging to Azad and Suhail. Based on Ahmed’s revelations, two people were later caught.
Investigators also found digital evidence that Dr. Ahmed had allegedly promised a handler named Abu Khalija that he would perform an “important task”, pointing to an advanced stage of radicalization.
ATS sources said that despite holding a doctorate degree, Ahmed had become radicalized after completing his academic studies. His wife separated from him within two months of their marriage after she learned of his extremist views.
During the interrogation of the three, ATS made another disturbing revelation. Azad, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, had traveled to Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir with the intention of carrying out a terrorist attack. When he failed to find any targets there, he reportedly traveled further and later reconnoitered temples in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, after meeting a man in a train.
With the scope of investigation increasing in many states, Gujarat ATS is now keeping an eye on every person associated with the network.
