Patna, Nov 21 (IANS) A local Vikassheel Insaan Party (VIP) leader was shot dead after two bike-borne men allegedly opened fire in Bihar’s East Champaran district on Friday.
The incident took place at around 6 am in Tinkoni village of Darpa police station area, when the victim Kameshwar Sahani (50) was returning home. Sahni, who was serving as the district in-charge of VIP’s Raxaul unit, had reportedly come out early in the morning and was cleaning his hands near the entrance of his house when two unidentified men arrived on a motorcycle and opened fire on him.
Sahni was hit by several bullets in the attack. On receiving the information, the police of Darpa police station reached the spot. They recovered the body and sent it for post-mortem.
Authorities recovered evidence, including fired bullets, from the crime scene, and a forensic team was called in.
Investigation Raxaul S.D.P.O. The investigation is being conducted under the supervision of the Department of Investigation, in which the officials are investigating on many aspects.
A relative, Rajesh Kumar, alleged that the attack took place just outside Sahni’s house and suggested that the incident could be linked to either an old personal enmity or a political dispute. The family members are inconsolable.
Police sources said Sahni had several criminal cases registered against him in the past and he was an active political figure closely associated with VIP leader Mukesh Sahni.
East Champaran Superintendent of Police Swarn Prabhat said, “It is too early to decide whether it is a political or personal dispute. Evidence is being collected and CCTV footage of the surrounding area is being examined.”
VIP district president Ashok Sahni condemned the attack, calling it a major conspiracy and urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure early arrest of the culprits.
An FIR has been registered against two unidentified persons at Darpa police station under relevant IPC sections of murder and criminal conspiracy.
