Hyderabad, Nov 20 (IANS) The last rites of 45 Umrah pilgrims from Hyderabad, who died in a bus accident near Madinah in Saudi Arabia on November 16, will be performed in the holy city on Friday.
A Telangana government delegation led by the Minority Welfare Minister, which is in Medina to oversee the funeral arrangements, on Thursday met Andhra Governor S. Abdul Nazeer; Secretary (CPV&OIA), Ministry of External Affairs Arun Kumar Chatterjee and Indian Ambassador to Saudi Arabia Dr Suhail Ajaz Khan.
During the meeting, both sides had detailed discussions and reviewed all ongoing arrangements.
Azharuddin led funeral prayers at the Masjid-e-Nabawi (Prophet’s Mosque) on Friday, with burial at Jannat-ul-Baqi, a revered site in Islam’s second holiest city.
According to a statement here, Saudi government officials have accepted the request and the process is currently underway.
The family members of the deceased have already reached Madinah to attend the last rites.
The Telangana delegation, including Azharuddin, MLA Majeed Hussain and Secretary to the Government, Minority Welfare Department B Shafiullah, is in Madinah for the last three days to provide assistance to the families of the victims and oversee relief measures in coordination with Saudi authorities.
“Efforts are underway to complete the necessary formalities, and Inshallah, the last rites and last rites will be performed tomorrow (Friday), hopefully at Jannat-ul-Baqi in Madinah Sharif. We would like to thank the Saudi Arabian government and all authorities for their cooperation and support,” Azharuddin posted on ‘X’.
Azharuddin asked Chief Minister A. for approval to give ex-gratia amount of Rs 5 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased person. Expressed gratitude to Revanth Reddy. Additionally, two family members from each victim have been given the facility to travel to Saudi Arabia to perform the last rites.
The Telangana government has made arrangements for their transportation, food and accommodation, and is providing all necessary assistance to the bereaved families.
