Ranchi, Nov 20 (IANS) The Jharkhand High Court on Thursday pulled up the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) over alleged irregularities in the revised results of the assistant teacher recruitment examination for mathematics and science subjects.
Taking cognizance of several complaints, the court said that the anomalies have raised serious concerns about the transparency and credibility of the selection process.
A bench of Justice Anand Sen said that, based on the material placed before the court, many candidates securing higher marks were inexplicably excluded from the revised merit list, while many candidates securing lower marks were included in it.
The court asked JSSC to explain the criteria, rules and methodology adopted while preparing the revised merit list.
The petition filed by Kishore Kumar and other aggrieved candidates said that all of them were listed in the preliminary results and were later called for district level counselling.
During counselling, the candidates were shown their official score details which, according to the petitioners, clearly shows their high merit.
However, when the revised results were declared, the petitioners discovered that many candidates with lower marks were retained, while those with higher marks – including themselves – were removed.
Advocate Chanchal Jain, appearing for the petitioners, presented 15-20 examples to the court to demonstrate these discrepancies.
The petitioners also said that they have high marks in their respective categories and have passed the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET), making their removal even more suspicious.
Taking a strong stance, the court asked the Commission to explain why candidates with lower marks were given preference over candidates with higher marks.
Describing the matter as “serious”, the High Court issued an interim order directing that the posts of the petitioners be kept vacant until the matter is resolved.
The court directed the JSSC to file a detailed counter affidavit explaining the rationale and procedures which led to the exclusion of candidates who scored higher marks in the revised merit list.
