Bengaluru, Nov 20 (IANS) Karnataka Police has started searching for the robbers involved in the shocking daylight robbery of Rs 7.11 crore in Bengaluru. The FIR lodged in the case reveals shocking details of how the robbers, claiming to be Reserve Bank of India (RBI) officials, threatened the driver at gunpoint, forced the gunmen and another employee to alight from the vehicle and carried out the robbery.
It has also been revealed that the gang had also taken away the DVR from the cash filling vehicle.
The complaint was lodged by Vinod Chandrar, 47, branch manager of CMS Info System Limited, HBR Layout. The company withdraws money every day from the currency chest of HDFC Bank at ITI Layout, JP Nagar, Bengaluru and deposits it in ATMs across the city.
The FIR said, like other days, at 9.30 am on November 19, under the supervision of custodian Aftab, the company vehicle – Tata Yodha with registration number GJ-01-HT-9173 – left for duty with driver Binod Kumar and gunmen Rajanna and Thammaiah. At 12.30 pm, Rs 7.11 crore in cash was taken out from the currency chest of HDFC Bank, which was loaded into a truck and taken to the ATM for refilling.
According to the complaint, CMS Fleet Manager Farooq Pasha received a call from driver Binod Kumar, who informed him that while traveling from Ashok Pillar towards Lalbagh Sidhpur Gate, five to six people came in an Innova car with registration number KA-03-NC-8052. They identified themselves as RBI officers and instructed custodian Aftab and gunmen Rajanna and Thammaiah to get down from the vehicle and sit inside the Innova.
He then asked Binod Kumar to drive the cash-refill vehicle. Binod Kumar claimed that he did not know where his comrades were taken. He later said the gang threatened him with a gun and looted Rs 7.11 crore in cash at the Dairy Circle flyover.
The complainant said he immediately checked the GPRS of the vehicle and confirmed that it was near Dairy Circle on Hosur Road. After this, Security Manager Syed Amjad Pasha informed the police control room. A company technician examined the vehicle and later informed them that the thieves had taken away the DVR installed in the truck.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the robbery took place under the jurisdiction of three police stations. The flyover on which the incident took place is located at the intersection bordering these stations. The gang also snatched the mobile phones of all the four staff members.
It is noteworthy that a major incident of robbery took place in broad daylight in Bengaluru on Wednesday, where a gang looted Rs 7.11 crore from a vehicle carrying cash for ATM refilling.
Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh has issued instructions to keep the city on high alert. Orders have been given to intensify vehicle checking, especially at the city borders, where barricades have been put up to prevent the accused from fleeing Bengaluru.
The gang used fake number plates on the Innova car for the robbery. The number KA 03 NC 8052 was installed on the Innova. Police said that this number actually belongs to a Swift car from Kalyan Nagar.
Employees of the cash refill vehicle reportedly informed the authorities late after the incident, raising suspicion. Questions are being asked as to why the gunmen present did not use their weapons. All these aspects are being investigated in depth.
