Kolkata, Nov 20 (IANS) To complete the digitization of counting forms for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in West Bengal by the end of the month, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has set a target of daily digitization of forms for booth level officials.
Under this target, each BLO will have to upload 150 enumeration forms collected by them from voters in the special app provided to them by the ECI. An insider in the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal said the daily target for each BLO was fixed keeping in mind the ECI’s earlier target of completing the digitization process by the end of November.
The total number of BLOs appointed for the vetting process is 80,681.
According to data provided by the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), West Bengal, as of 6 pm on Wednesday, digitization of about 1.48 crore enumeration forms had been completed, which is about 19 per cent of the total 7,64,11,983 enumeration forms already distributed among voters in the state.
The total number of voters in West Bengal as per the voter list on October 27 is 7,66,37,529, which means 2,25,546 enumeration forms are yet to be distributed.
Currently, the SIR process is underway in a total of 12 Indian states and union territories, including West Bengal. The entire process is expected to be completed by March next year.
As per the latest data, the percentage of digitization of completed enumeration forms in West Bengal is around 19 per cent, which is lower than other states such as 48.50 per cent in Goa, 40.90 per cent in Rajasthan and 22.23 per cent in Madhya Pradesh and 20.88 per cent in Gujarat.
The last time SIR was conducted in West Bengal was in 2002.
Existing voters whose name or their parents appear in the 2002 electoral roll will automatically be considered valid voters in the current SIR process. Those who do not have their own or their parents’ name will have to provide any one of the 11 identity documents specified by the ECI to retain their name in the voter list.
Although Aadhaar card has been included as the 12th document in the list, the ECI had made it clear that those presenting Aadhaar card will have to submit one more of the 11 other identity documents specified by it.
