Patna, Nov 19 (IANS) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday submitted his resignation to Governor Arif Mohammad Khan and staked claim to form the next NDA government in the state.
He reached Raj Bhavan along with senior NDA leaders including Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Samrat Chaudhary, Vijay Kumar Sinha.
Kumar handed over the list of 202 newly elected MLAs to Arif Mohammad Khan to stake claim to form the next government.
The Governor of Bihar has invited him to form the next government.
Earlier in the day, Nitish Kumar was unanimously elected leader of the NDA legislative party at a meeting held at the Central Hall of the Bihar Legislative Assembly.
Nitish Kumar will take oath as Chief Minister in a grand ceremony organized at Gandhi Maidan in Patna on Thursday 20th November.
Before the NDA meeting, Nitish Kumar was also elected leader in the JDU legislature party meeting.
In the BJP legislature party meeting, Samrat Chaudhary was elected leader and Vijay Kumar Sinha was elected deputy leader.
Both the leaders are about to take oath as ministers and will serve as Deputy Chief Ministers in the new government.
According to sources, about 20 ministers are likely to take oath along with Nitish Kumar.
The swearing-in ceremony will start at 1 pm, Governor Arif Mohammad Khan will administer the oath at 1.30 pm.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, several Union ministers, chief ministers of various BJP-ruled states and other dignitaries are expected to attend the event.
In view of the apprehension of VVIP movement, elaborate security and traffic arrangements have been made from Patna Airport to Gandhi Maidan.
Nitish Kumar will take oath at Gandhi Maidan after 10 years.
The last ceremony at this historic site took place in 2015. Nitish Kumar had earlier taken oath at Gandhi Maidan in 2005 and 2010 also.
In 2020, due to COVID-19 restrictions, the ceremony was shifted to Raj Bhavan.
