Mumbai/Buldhana, Nov 19 (IANS) Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee President Harshvardhan Sapkal on Wednesday claimed that Deputy Chief Minister and Shiv Sena chief leader Eknath Shinde is now isolated within the Grand Alliance and is fearing a possible split in the party.

He said, “It is because of this fear that the drama of their resentment and protest has come to the fore. This Mahayuti has not been formed on the basis of ideology, development or faith, but only for the sake of power. But instead of accepting humiliation for the sake of power, Eknath Shinde should step out of the government.”

Sapkal, who launched the party’s campaign in Buldhana for the local and civic body elections, said the three parties in power have come together out of the compulsion that comes with remaining in power.

He said, “This is the ‘triple engine government gang’, which is why we are seeing gang war between them. Sometimes Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde gets upset and goes to a field in Dere village of Satara district and sulks, and sometimes other Deputy Chief Ministers go missing.”

He said that if Eknath Shinde really wants to register his protest or is really upset and if nothing concrete is being done then he should step down from power.

He said, “Since he cannot live without power, he will have to silently endure any oppression by Devendra Fadnavis.”

Speaking on the issue of Pune land scam, Sapkal said that Deputy Chief Minister and NCP chief Ajit Pawar went to Delhi and pleaded with Union Home Minister Amit Shah to save himself.

“It appears that he has succeeded in brokering a compromise in Delhi, and Parth Pawar has got a clean chit. It also seems that Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar have reached some kind of understanding. Had it not been so, action would not have been taken against only a few officials and a person with only 1 per cent stake, while Ajit Pawar’s son Parth Pawar, who holds 99 per cent stake, was spared. Rs 70,000 against Ajit Pawar. Despite alleging a Rs 1 crore irrigation scam, the BJP is still inducting him into the government,” he remarked.

Sapkal alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party has given tickets to drug mafias, goons, corrupt persons and people facing serious criminal charges in the local and municipal elections.

“People with serious crimes are being brought into the party and purified through washing,” he said.

However, he said that the public should not support this distorted and criminal politics of BJP.
