Lucknow, Nov 19 (IANS) Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati presented the party’s revised organizational strategy at a meeting of party leaders here on Wednesday. He stressed that strengthening the organization in the states is now the top priority of the party.
She was addressing the state-wise review meeting for Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Bihar and Jharkhand.
Mayawati said that today the struggle of BSP extends beyond electoral politics. He said, “This fight is not just for elections, but to protect the Constitution, social justice and Bahujan self-respect.”
He directed party units to carry out every task with a “missionary spirit”, from the ongoing intensive revision of voter lists to preparations for the death anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar on December 6.
The BSP chief reviewed the progress on his earlier directives aimed at increasing the party’s support base among all sections of the society in these states. He stressed the need to address any organizational deficiencies.
Mayawati said that carrying forward the legacy and ideals of Baba Saheb Ambedkar and Kanshi Ram is the true expression of public interest and national interest.
He said the situation of Dalits, tribals, backward classes and the poor in the western and southern states is no different from that in the North.
He said, “The participation of these classes in governance and administration is very low and this is the real reason for their backwardness.”
Recalling the tenure of the BSP government in Uttar Pradesh, Mayawati said sincere efforts were made to improve the lives of marginalized communities, but “communal and casteist politics” derailed the progress.
“Today reservation has remained nominal, backlogs are not being filled and the interests of the Bahujan community are being continuously ignored. Electoral power has now become the most important weapon to protect Bahujan self-respect.”
He urged party officials to be fully proactive during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists, warning that lack of vigilance could result in “millions of people losing their constitutional right to vote.”
Mayawati also warned that while earlier elections were influenced by money power and misuse of government machinery, now governments are shaping public opinion through “government money”. He said, this has intensified the challenge of winning the elections and strong organizational preparation has become necessary.
The BSP chief lauded the enthusiasm of the party workers who participated in the program organized on Kanshi Ram’s death anniversary in Lucknow on October 9 and said the same energy should be taken back to their respective states to take the Bahujan movement forward “from the exploited to the ruling class”.
He directed that Ambedkar’s death anniversary on 6 December should be celebrated not as a formality, but with full dedication, to ensure that both the spirit and purpose of the Bahujan movement remain strong.
