Addressing the South India Natural Farming Summit in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, PM Modi said, “Due to excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides, soil fertility is decreasing, soil moisture is getting affected and the cost of farming is increasing every year. Its solution is possible only through crop diversification and natural farming.”
“Expansion of natural farming is the demand of 21st century farming,” he stressed. “It can keep our soil healthy and protect people from harmful chemicals,” he said.
The Prime Minister further said that natural farming can help tackle climate change.
Prime Minister Modi also transferred the 21st installment of PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana to the beneficiary farmers.
Above ₹18,000 crore transferred directly into the bank accounts of over nine crore farmers with each recipient ₹2,000.

The Prime Minister also attended an exhibition of various farmers from Tamil Nadu at the Natural Farming Summit and appreciated their contribution to the sector.
He said, “I was watching the exhibition. I got a chance to talk to many farmers. Someone had done mechanical engineering, PhD and then was doing farming, someone left NASA and was doing farming, they are grooming and training many youth… I salute the courage of the farmers of Tamil Nadu, I salute their strength to accept change.”

After reaching Tamil Nadu, PM Modi also held a road show in Coimbatore.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi had visited Andhra Pradesh to commemorate the centenary of the birth of Sri Sathya Sai Baba.
