Bengaluru, Nov 19 (IANS) The prosecution has submitted a plea under CrPC 264 in the Bengaluru trial court to mark the evidence in connection with the sensational fan-murder case involving Kannada superstar Darshan, his partner Pavitra Gowda and others as not disputed. The petition has been filed to expedite the trial process.
It is expected that Darshan’s lawyer will present his arguments in this regard on Wednesday. This is an important stage of the proceedings, after which the questioning of witnesses will begin.
After marking of evidence, the phase of witness examination in the fan-murder case will begin.
The police will present and record the details of all the witnesses before the court. There are over 200 pieces of evidence, of which about 10 are indisputable. If Darshan’s attorneys agree to mark these, there may be no need to examine them and related specific documents in the trial process.
If the documents are accepted and marked, there will be no need for further corroborating evidence. The case is going on in CCH-57 court of Bengaluru. In its petition, the prosecution has requested that the court mark the documentary evidence which is not disputed. The court will decide on the petition.
Since Darshan and other accused have pleaded not guilty to the charges filed by the police, the prosecution will have to present a list of witnesses for investigation. Once the hearing is scheduled, summons will be issued to the witnesses.
The gruesome murder of Renukaswamy, a fan of Darshan, took place in Bengaluru on June 8, 2024. Renukaswamy was kidnapped from his home town, Chitradurga, brought to Bengaluru, kept in a shed and tortured to death. After the murder his body was thrown into the canal. The incident came to light when security personnel at a private apartment building spotted the body being dragged by a pack of dogs.
The 3,991-page chargesheet presented by the Bengaluru Police in the court in the case of superstar Darshan and his partner Pavitra Gowda has revealed that the victim Renukaswamy had asked Pavitra Gowda to be in a secret live-in relationship with him.
Police sources said that investigation revealed that Darshan repeatedly kicked Renukaswamy’s chest, due to which his chest bones were broken. Later, Darshan picks her up and throws her into a truck, causing serious head injuries. Then Darshan, while showing the photo of her private parts sent to Pavitra Gowda, kicked her on her private parts, due to which the victim became unconscious.
Darshan’s attack was fatal and resulted in the death of Renukaswami. Police sources said that the police have cited the report of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in the charge sheet in this regard.
Police have also collected photographs of him walking around in tension after the murder and talking to other accused in a star hotel in Mysuru city before he was arrested in the case. Police have also said that they have collected 65 photographs in connection with the murder of Renukaswamy.
Darshan, Pavitra Gowda and 15 others were arrested on June 11 from Chitradurga for the kidnapping and brutal murder of Renukaswamy. Darshan was shifted to Ballari jail after pictures of him being treated ‘royally’ in Bengaluru Central Jail surfaced. He is facing three FIRs in this connection.
The Supreme Court had canceled the bail of Darshan, Pavitra Gowda and others. He is currently lodged in Bengaluru Central Jail.
