New Delhi, Nov 19 (IANS) The investigation into the Delhi Red Fort blast case is taking a new turn with agencies now looking into whether the blast was caused by panic or frustration.
Investigators have learned that Dr. Umar Nabi became frustrated due to repeated postponements of the attack and the busting of the Faridabad module and he detonated the explosive device on a crowded street.
At first, investigating agencies said that Nabi might have carried out the blast out of fear after the module was busted and thousands of kilograms of ammonium nitrate was seized. Many of the people the agencies spoke to said that Nabi was an aggressive person and had no patience. This led to differences of opinion with other members of the module.
Chat transcripts and testimony from various individuals indicate that he was always arguing with the rest of the module members. His arguments with prime accused Muzammil and Dr. Shaheen indicate that he had a problem with the timing of the blast. He often argued with Shaheen about the money he was given to run recruitment drives.
As with Muzammil, the debate centered around the timing of the explosion. Muzammil advised the Prophet to wait and not be impatient. However, Nabi believed that the blasts should be carried out in September itself. Additionally, there was disagreement regarding the date of the attacks. The original plan was to carry out the attack on 15 August. It was postponed till 6 December. The module then felt that there would be too much security on 6 December, and so it should be delayed to 26 January.
All these discussions greatly disappointed the Prophet. The final straw was the busting of the Faridabad module, and hence, Nabi decided to act on his own. He had detonated a bomb on a crowded road near the Red Fort on November 10.
Although the explosion had a major impact and resulted in loss of lives, it did not go as originally planned. The Faridabad module of Jaish-e-Mohammed intended to carry out a major attack. They not only wanted to carry out a major attack, but had also planned to kill more than 100 people.
Nabi’s constant arguments with Shaheen and Muzammil led to premature operation. An official said, if one looks at the implementation, it can be said that the plan has not been as per the intention.
This also explains the video that Nabi posted before the blast. The intention was not just to send a message aimed at radicalizing the youth, but also to send a message to the members of his module about the urgent need.
An Intelligence Bureau official said that there are clear indications that the Prophet has become mentally unstable. This is because he was radical and wanted a very fast, big-impact attack. However, his colleagues in the Faridabad module felt that it would be better to be patient and then choose an opportune time to carry out the attack. The officer also said that these delays led to frustration and Nabi decided to attack prematurely.
Conversations between Nabi and others indicated that he was ready to carry out the attack in September. He called it September Spectrum, but when his module members disagreed, he decided to act on his own. These chats, between September and October, point to considerable disagreement and also to Nabi’s growing frustration.
Investigators say these arguments and Nabi’s aggression caused the module to collapse from within. This caused them to lose their vigilance, which ultimately resulted in the busting of the module.
The investigation revealed that Nabi did not just have disagreements with members of his module that had left Nabi frustrated and unstable. One reason for his state of mind was his remaining a fundamentalist for a long time. Colleagues and acquaintances the police spoke to say that Nabi would speak only about radical things. He would talk about how he wanted to kill people. His only aim was to take revenge and kill people.
There will also be a conversation between Muzammil and Shaheen, during which they will talk about the need to keep Nabi away from the planning and logistics. They felt that his unstable state of mind would cause the module to completely collapse and they discussed using him only when all aspects related to the explosions had been finalized.
