New Delhi, November 18 (IANS) The Indian Army celebrated the 245th Corps of Engineers Day in New Delhi on Tuesday.
At a grand ceremony held at the ‘National War Memorial’, Engineer-in-Chief Lieutenant General Vikas Rohela, along with other serving officers, JCOs and other ranks, laid wreath and paid homage to the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country.
This tribute reflects the Corps’ enduring commitment to protecting India’s sovereignty.
Later in the day, an award distribution ceremony was held at the Manekshaw Centre, where the Engineer-in-Chief honored outstanding individuals and units of the Corps for their excellence in technical ability, professional achievement, adventure and sports.
The event underlined the high standards and dedication of the Corps in fostering exceptional talent and skills among its ranks.
The Corps of Engineers, apart from providing assistance to the population during natural disasters, provides combat engineering support, develops infrastructure for the armed forces and other defense organizations and maintains connectivity across our vast borders.
These functions are executed through the four pillars of the Corps – Combat Engineers, Military Engineer Service, Border Roads Organization and Military Survey.
The Corps of Engineers has three groups, i.e. Madras Sappers, Bengal Sappers and Bombay Sappers, which were merged into the Corps on 18 November 1932. Since its inception, history is replete with immense exemplary contributions of the Corps of Engineers in both war and peace.
Notably, Lieutenant General Vikas Rohela took over as Engineer-in-Chief last month.
Then, in a solemn ceremony, he laid a wreath at the National War Memorial to honor the supreme sacrifice of the brave men.
He encouraged all ranks of the Corps of Engineers to maintain the rich traditions of selfless service to the nation and focus on innovation and technology absorption, thereby enhancing the operational preparedness of the Indian Army at all times.
