Kolkata, Nov 17 (IANS) Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the West Bengal Assembly and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Suvendu Adhikari on Monday said the Special Intensive Review (SIR) exercise conducted in the state has left the Trinamool Congress nervous.
According to the LOP official, the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress is opposing the move to keep its vote bank alive through names of dead and illegal voters in the voter list.
Addressing a press conference, the BJP leader showed a PowerPoint presentation where he showed how multiple duplicate voters, dead voters, double voting at the same booth and votes of infiltrators benefit the Trinamool Congress.
In the PowerPoint presentation, the LOP officer also showed a video of ‘Bangladeshi infiltrators’ fleeing across the border.
“The reason for Trinamool’s pain is clear. The party is upset with the names of dead and duplicate voters being removed through the SIR exercise. In the 2002 SIR exercise, 26 lakh names were removed. This time, more names will be removed. Had the state government cooperated with the Election Commission, a lot of names would have been removed. This time, 80 per cent of the SIR will be successful.”
Meanwhile, the LOP official criticized the Trinamool Congress government, alleging a deep nexus between booth level officers (BLOs) and a section of Block Development Officers (BDOs).
He alleged that the purpose of this nexus is to help the Trinamool Congress in thwarting the efforts of the Election Commission to remove fake voters and illegal citizens from the voter list.
He also alleged that the vetting process has been facing adversity ever since the counting began.
“Tamluk BDOs were misleading BLOs about dead and transferred voters. In North 24 Parganas district, officers in-charge of the SIR exercise are forcing BLOs to distribute enumeration forms even to vacant addresses,” the LOP official said.
He said that BJP had submitted the list of 13.25 lakh fake voters to the poll panel and alleged that 50 to 150 dead voters were found at each booth in 20 assembly constituencies.
