Hyderabad, Nov 17 (IANS) Telangana Minority Welfare Minister Mohammad Azharuddin on Monday expressed deep grief over the accident of a bus carrying Indian pilgrims in Saudi Arabia.
“Deeply shocked by the tragic accident of a bus carrying Indian pilgrims in Saudi Arabia. My heartfelt prayers are with all those affected, especially the families from Hyderabad who were part of this unfortunate incident,” Azharuddin said in a post on Twitter.
The minister said Chief Minister Revanth Reddy took immediate action and directed officials to collect complete details and coordinate with the Ministry of External Affairs and the Saudi Embassy to ensure that all necessary assistance and relief measures are provided without any delay.
“A dedicated control room has been set up to assist the families and closely monitor the situation: 79979 59754; 99129 19545. We stand with the families during this difficult time and will provide all possible assistance through the Department of Minority Welfare, Government of Telangana,” Azharuddin said.
Meanwhile, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao expressed grief over the accident.
“The death of several pilgrims from Hyderabad in a horrific bus accident in Saudi Arabia is extremely saddening. We express our deepest condolences to their families,” he said.
The former minister said the state government should take immediate steps to provide better treatment to those injured in the incident, where a bus collided with a diesel tanker while traveling from Mecca to Medina.
KTR said that in view of the information that most of the deceased were Hyderabadis, the state government should coordinate with the Ministry of External Affairs and speed up relief efforts.
Another BRS leader, T. Harish Rao, posted, “Deeply saddened by the tragic bus accident in Saudi Arabia in which 42 Umrah pilgrims lost their lives, many of them from Telangana. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. I urge the Government of Telangana and the Government of India to extend all possible assistance to the bereaved families and ensure that they get appropriate assistance.”
Telangana awakening leader K. Kavita wrote, “Shocked to know that at least 42 Indian Umrah pilgrims, many of them from Hyderabad, are feared dead after a bus traveling from Mecca to Medina collided with a diesel tanker.”
He urged the Central government, especially External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, to immediately coordinate with Saudi authorities, ensure all possible assistance and provide assistance to the families of the victims.
