The first family of Rashtriya Janata Dal is in the midst of an unprecedented internal conflict. A day after Lalu Prasad Yadav’s daughter Rohini Acharya quit politics and distanced herself from the family, her public decision triggered a chain reaction on Sunday when her four sisters also left Patna.

The crisis began when Rohini, who lives in Singapore, announced late on Saturday night to X that she was quitting politics and severing ties with her family. His post came hours after the RJD-led grand alliance suffered a major electoral setback in Bihar. In her message, she wrote: “I am quitting politics and I am rejecting my family… Sanjay Yadav and Rameez asked me to do the same… and I am taking all the blame on myself.”

I am leaving politics and abandoning my family…
This is what Sanjay Yadav and Rameez asked me to do…and I’m taking all the blame on myself

In another emotional note on X, Rohini accused her father of being humiliated for donating a kidney, saying: “Yesterday, I was cursed and told that I am dirty… That I got my dirty kidney transplanted from my father… Took crores of rupees… To all the daughters, never save your father when there is a son at home. Tell the son to bring his own kidney or get kidneys from his friends.”

Yesterday I was abused and told that I am dirty and I got my dirty kidney implanted by my father, took crores of rupees, bought the ticket, then got the dirty kidney implanted.. I will tell all the daughters and sisters, those who are married, that when you have a son or brother in your parents’ house, then even by mistake, you should worship your father like God…

His comments have upset people both inside and outside the party, revealing the deep family tension in Lalu’s house.

Amidst public protest, his elder brother Tej Pratap Yadav, After being dropped from the RJD earlier this year, he issued a strong reaction through an emotional video shared on the Instagram page of his party Janashakti Janata Dal (JJD). In his message, Tej Pratap said, “Today my home is in trouble. My parents are unsafe. My sisters have left the house. The entire family is going through immense pain. I appeal to the people to identify these traitors. Question them in a democratic manner. Those who break families never have a good end.”

He also suggested that the people of Bihar have ‘woke up’ and will hold those responsible accountable. Tej Pratap’s reaction drew fresh attention to his deteriorating equation with the family, especially after he was ousted from the RJD following a controversial Facebook post that revived discussions about his strained marriage with Aishwarya Rai and their ongoing divorce dispute.

While the family crisis played out publicly, RJD chief Lalu Prasad, his son and former deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav and other senior members maintained complete silence.

Party insiders indicated that long-standing differences could deepen as Tejashwi has consolidated organizational control over the years with a close group of advisers. That arrangement is now under scrutiny, with many leaders acknowledging that divisions within the family could have far-reaching political consequences.

For now, the turmoil within Bihar’s most influential political family shows no signs of abating, and the RJD leadership appears unwilling or unable to step in.
