Chandigarh, Nov 16 (IANS) BJP Punjab unit working president Ashwani Sharma on Sunday condemned the murder of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) volunteer Naveen Arora in Ferozepur.
Arora, a third-generation Sangh volunteer, was the grandson of late Dina Nath and son of Baldev Raj Arora, a senior RSS leader and social activist.
He was allegedly shot dead by two assailants riding a motorcycle on Saturday evening.
The incident occurred when 32-year-old Naveen Arora, who runs a shop in the main market, was walking home.
According to the police, the attackers opened fire on them near Baba Noor Shah Wali Dargah. A bullet hit him in the head and he was taken to a private hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. The family has refused to cremate, demanding justice.
Calling the incident “neither the first nor the only” incident, BJP working chief Sharma said, “The continuous killings and crimes targeting businessmen, athletes, youth and common people raise serious questions on the incompetent functioning of the state government.”
He said the state government has proved a complete ‘failure’ in handling law and order and the BJP will not remain silent on the issue of ‘safety of innocent people’.
“This incident clearly shows how much the morale of criminals has increased under the rule of the present government.”
Expressing concern, he said that “people no longer feel safe anywhere in Punjab.”
He further said, “Instead of ensuring public safety, Punjab Police has been deployed in the service of AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and his team who came from Delhi, which is against the public interest.”
Sharma said the BJP will continue its fight against this “rising wave of crime” and will continue to demand strict action to “restore peace and security” in the state.
Sharma expressed condolences to the Arora family and assured them of all possible support in their fight for justice.
