Democratic senator who voted to reopen government says Schumer is ‘effective’ leader
Senator Tim Kaine, one of seven Democrats who voted with Republicans to reopen the government last week, believes Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer remains an “effective leader” despite Democrats’ efforts to reopen the government.
Asked if Schumer had given him his strategic blessing to vote with Republicans to end Democrats’ efforts to make health care more affordable for Americans, Kaine responded, “Absolutely not.”
“But Chuck and I had a very interesting debate a few years ago on an unrelated topic, where I was going in a different direction than him on an issue,” Kaine said on NBC News’ “Meet the Press.”
“I said, ‘Chuck, listen, my goal with you is always to keep you informed. But I don’t need a permission slip from you because eight and a half million Virginians gave me that permission slip in November 2024,'” Kaine said.

Thomas Massie says Trump is being ‘threatening’ over his second marriage
On Friday, Trump used his Truth Social account to insult Macy and hinted that he might get married “soon” after the death of his first wife and high school girlfriend in June 2024.
Trump further said, “No wonder the polls show his chances of winning the election are less than 8%.” “Anyway, have a nice life to Thomas and (?). His wife will soon find out she’s stuck with a loser!”
Massie is one of the few Republicans who has been highly critical of Trump’s policies.
But it appeared Trump’s comments took it too far, with several MAGA-affiliated individuals condemning Trump for bringing up Macy’s deceased wife.
“You know, my wife said to me, ‘I told you so. We should have invited Donald Trump. He made it so he didn’t get an invitation,'” Massey told ABC’s “This Week” Sunday.
“We’re taking it lightly. He’s a scoundrel, or trying to be a scoundrel.”
Massey married his second wife, Caroline Moffa, this year.

‘It all depends on the Epstein files,’ says MTG
Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene is not giving up her efforts to release the Epstein files and said the dissolution of her relationship with the president ultimately depends on it.
“Unfortunately, this all comes down to the Epstein files. It’s shocking,” Greene told CNN’s Dana Bash on “State of the Union” Sunday morning.
After months of breaking with his party over issues such as declaring Israel’s war in Gaza genocide and Republicans refusing to take responsibility for ineffective health care, Trump said over the weekend that he would no longer support Greene’s re-election campaign.
Greene was once considered one of Trump’s most loyal supporters
“I stand with these women, I stand with rape victims, I stand with children who are in horrific sexual abuse situations and I stand with trafficking survivors and those caught in sex trafficking. I will not apologize for this. I believe the country deserves transparency for these files.”

Greene calls Trump’s words ‘hurtful’ and warns they could provoke threats
Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, a well-known loyal supporter of the president, said Sunday morning that President Donald Trump’s words were “hurtful” and warned it could “radicalize” people.
On CNN’s “State of the Union,” Greene reminded people of her loyalty to the president, saying that he spent millions of dollars to help her get elected and that she stood by him when no one else did.
“Certainly, his comments have been hurtful,” Green began. “However, I think in my heart there is something that is incredibly important for our country and that is ending toxic fighting in politics.”
Greene said political rhetoric has divided the United States and turned people against each other.
“The most hurtful thing he said, which is absolutely false, is that he called me a ‘traitor’, and that is very wrong and used words that could radicalize people against me and put my life in danger.”

House vote on Epstein files looms – which other Republicans supported it?
On the same day that the government reopened after a 43-day shutdown, a petition supported by all House Democrats and four Republicans got the final signatures needed for a vote on a bill to force the Justice Department to release all Epstein-related files.
High-level Trump aides failed to persuade Representative Lauren Boebert to remove her name from the Epstein petition, even going so far as to meet with her in the Situation Room, a White House space typically used to discuss pressing national security matters. reuters Report.
Another Trump loyalist, Republican Representative Nancy Mace, also left no stone unturned in her support of the petition. A source familiar with the situation, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that when Mace and Trump were unable to connect by phone, she wrote a message to the president that referenced her experience as a sexual assault survivor.
The insistence of Boebert and Mace, members of the Republican congressional conference who have shown almost complete obedience to Trump, shows that the president will have to carefully handle internal dissent to ensure that the Epstein saga does not split his party in the midterm elections.
