Kolkata, Nov 16 (IANS) The office of West Bengal Governor CB Anand Bose is considering approaching the Lok Sabha Secretariat for action against Kalyan Banerjee over her controversial comments alleging that weapons were distributed from the Raj Bhavan complex in Kolkata, sources said on Sunday.
The Governor’s office is also considering other necessary legal actions against Banerjee, a four-time Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha member, for her controversial and baseless comments made to media persons on Saturday afternoon, a Raj Bhavan insider said.
Raj Bhavan was thrown open to Banerjee, civil society members and journalists from Sunday morning for inspection and verification of any arms and ammunition stored within the Governor House complex.
The Governor’s office also raised questions: Since the Kolkata Police was guarding the Raj Bhavan, how could arms and ammunition be stored in its premises? Raj Bhavan had also demanded immediate investigation into the matter, as Banerjee’s allegations indicate a breach of the security of the Governor, who enjoys “Z Plus” category security.
The Raj Bhavan office has also demanded an unconditional apology from Banerjee if her allegations made publicly are false.
A source said, “The Governor’s security officials advised him to leave the Raj Bhavan for a safe place till the investigation of illegal arms and ammunition in the Raj Bhavan is completed. “Whatever happens, I will stay in the Raj Bhavan,” the Governor said.
On Saturday, Banerjee also made a controversial statement about Prime Minister Narendra Modi, linking him to the car blast in New Delhi earlier this week that killed 12 people.
Speaking to media persons, Banerjee said that the blast was deliberately carried out just a day before the second phase of voting in the Bihar Assembly elections, to create a sympathy wave in favor of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and she directly accused the Prime Minister of masterminding that conspiracy.
