Dehradun, Nov 15 (IANS) Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Saturday said the government is working with full dedication and commitment for the welfare of the tribal and indigenous communities of the hill state.
Addressing a program in Udham Singh Nagar, the Chief Minister said, “Tribal society is the pride of the state. For their empowerment, health-education facilities are being strengthened in 128 villages under the Pradhan Mantri Tribal Unnat Gram Abhiyan. Better opportunities are being provided to students through various schemes.”
During the day, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone of Maharana Pratap Government College at Nanakmatta, inaugurated the Nagar Panchayat office building and flagged off a cycle rally at the Tribal Gaurav Diwas or Tribal Pride Day celebrations organized on the 150th birth anniversary of Lord Birsa Munda at Nanakmatta (Udham Singh Nagar).
“Organizing Tribal Pride Day is not only a means to honor Lord Birsa Munda but also to spread awareness about the social, cultural and historical identity of the tribal communities,” he said.
He said that the state government has allocated Rs 50 lakh for the preservation and promotion of social and cultural heritage of the tribal community through programs like Tribal Pride Day.
CM Dhami targeted the previous governments for suppressing information about the invaluable contribution of the tribal community in the development and independence of the country.
He said, “But under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the tribal community is getting due respect. Today no one can dare to tamper with the history and traditions associated with the tribal community.”
Additionally, he offered prayers at Gurudwara Sri Nanakmatta Sahib for the happiness and prosperity of the residents of the state.
During the programme, important announcements were made, such as setting up a free coaching centre, developing Nanakmatta as a tourist destination and naming Khatima bus station after Maharana Pratap, the CM said at the X.
