Rory McIlroy is the joint leader of DP World Tour Championship After the third round in Dubai.

After birdieing the first, McIlroy faced frustration on the final five holes before taking three shots with birdies on 14, 15 and 18.

McIlroy said sky sports: “I started off well, I hit two great shots on the first, two great shots on the second. I missed a two-and-a-half, a three-footer, a three-putt, and I think after that I let it affect me a little bit for the next few holes, especially on the green.
“But I stayed really patient, gave myself a lot of chances, didn’t blow too many holes but I knew some chances were coming and it was good to take advantage of them. Overall, it was a bit of a battling day, the conditions were quite difficult, but I’m happy with the score I scored.”
Hatton, who shot 67 for the second consecutive time, is almost a contender for the Race to Dubai, but he will have to win on Sunday and hope McIlroy falls out of the top eight.
It seems McIlroy is unlikely to lose too much sleep, saying: “I’m in better shape than him. I’m focused on myself. If I go out and play the golf that I know I’m capable of, especially around this golf course, I know I’ll be fine.
“It would be an amazing way to end the season. I’ve prepared myself to try to get another win here. I could definitely go on and enjoy these few weeks, but the Dubai race is important for me and it’s important for me to try to get a little closer to Monty.”
