Two law enforcement vehicles crashed in Tennessee Friday night while supporting the Vice President JD Vance“The convoy is sending a police officer to the hospital in critical condition,” officials said.
The crash in Maryville, about 17 miles (27 kilometers) south. KnoxvilleIt involved a state trooper and a motorcycle officer from the Maryville Police Department, the city said in a statement.
Both were taken to the hospital. Officials did not immediately release information about the soldier’s condition.
Katherine Pierce, resident agent in charge of the US Secret Service in Knoxville, said the agency is monitoring the situation closely.
“This incident has no impact on the safety and movement of our protected persons,” he said in a statement.
The Tennessee Highway Patrol was investigating.
Maryville Police Chief Tony Crisp asked people to pray for the officer, the officer’s family and medical personnel.
