Hyderabad, Nov 14 (IANS) AIMIM, which won five seats in the Bihar assembly elections, will continue to work for justice and development of the state’s Seemanchal, party president Asaduddin Owaisi said on Friday.

The Hyderabad MP said his party welcomes the mandate given by the people of Bihar. He said, “We welcome the people’s mandate. We congratulate Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and express our good wishes.”

Addressing a press conference, Owaisi said his party would cooperate with the government for the development of Seemanchal.

He said, “Our focus will be on bringing progress in Seemanchal, reducing child mortality rate and building schools, hospitals, bridges and industries for women and children. We will give our full support in this effort.”

Owaisi said, despite the defeat in the first election and being divided by rivals by luring four MLAs in 2022, AIMIM did not leave Seemanchal and announced that it would continue its fight.

Thanking the voters of Seemanchal for electing his party’s five MLAs, Owaisi said that this result will send a message to minorities across the country.

He said, “I am again appealing to the Muslim community that they should not become mere voters for others, but become citizens to get their rights as citizens. If you vote, you will be forgotten after the elections and if any calamity befalls you, no one will come.”

He expressed hope that secular-minded forces would also introspect and improve instead of blaming only Muslims.

“You cannot say that a particular caste did not vote for you, but you blame Muslims because you think they are your captive voters and they are bonded labourers,” he said in response to a question.

The AIMIM chief said that he has been saying that RJD will not be able to stop BJP.

He said, “The people of Bihar were misled on the MY alliance. I had said this earlier as well during the elections and I am saying it again today. You will cease to be just a voter. Become a voter. This will yield two benefits. Your leadership will develop and you will be able to stop the communal and fascist forces.”

Owaisi said that his apprehensions regarding the results of Bihar elections have come true. Without naming the Grand Alliance, he said that they need to introspect on why they failed to stop the BJP.

He urged for improving the curriculum and said that merely bashing AIMIM will not help.

He rejected the statement of Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav blaming SIR for the defeat in Bihar.

“You need to see your weaknesses. First of all, you have to be humble. If you think that we are kings and voters are our subjects, those days are gone,” he said.

The AIMIM chief lauded the victory of Congress candidate Naveen Yadav in the Jubilee Hills bypoll. He said Chief Minister Revanth Reddy called him and thanked him for supporting his party.

Calling it a big victory after the 2023 elections, Owaisi hoped that CM Revanth Reddy would do more to improve infrastructure and civic amenities in Jubilee Hills and the rest of Hyderabad and Telangana.

He defended the stance taken by the party and pointed out that BRS’s vote share was falling.
