New Delhi, Nov 14 (IANS) The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is headed for a landslide victory in Bihar on Friday, leading on 202 seats as per the latest trends, while the grand alliance including the Indian National Congress (INC), RJD and smaller allies is trailing with just 34 seats.
Analysts and BJP strategists interpret this wide gap as a sign of voter dissatisfaction with Congress’s perceived ideological shift and “appeasement-driven politics”.
On Pt. On the birth anniversary of Jawaharlal Nehru, observers and BJP strategists observed that many longtime Congress workers appeared disappointed, citing the party’s move away from its previous ideology towards what has been described as a combination of Maoist influence and Muslim appeasement – sometimes referred to in political commentary as the “Muslim League Maoist Congress”.
This narrative reflects the broader debate about the recent track record of the Congress. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had previously criticized the Congress for institutional decisions, citing the transfer of properties to the Waqf Board before the party left power in 2014 as an example of alleged appeasement at the expense of secular principles.
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh had also highlighted the previous comments of Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, who had controversially compared the Congress to the Muslim community during the Jubilee Hills by-election and claimed that such posts could divide the society on religious lines.
Political analysts point to several flashpoints in Karnataka, Telangana and other states, arguing that welfare promises targeted at specific communities, challenges to laws related to religious institutions and statements on demographic politics have collectively strengthened voter perceptions about identity-centric strategies.
Other controversial issues including the handling of triple talaq, the Citizenship Amendment Act and communal incidents have been cited as examples of selective interference in public discussion. Analysts suggest that these trends have contributed to a shift from broad-based politics to narrow, identity-centric platforms in shaping electoral outcomes in Bihar.
