Overloaded power cables caused a deadly fire at a retirement facility last week bosniaOfficials said Friday that doctors announced that the death toll had risen to 15.
An investigation found that the power cable from a radio used by one of the facility’s residents had become pinched between the man’s bed and the wall, causing a short circuit and fire on the evening of November 4.
Eleven people died and 30 were injured that day in a fire that broke out on the seventh floor of a retirement boarding house in the northeastern city of Tuzla. Doctors said on Friday that four more people had died in a Tuzla hospital, including two in the past week and two more in the past 24 hours.
Officials promised Friday that the investigation would continue amid public criticism to determine whether any neglect or oversight occurred.
Bosnian media reported that on higher floors of the complex lived elderly people who could not walk on their own or were ill. The manager of the complex has resigned.
