whitesnake frontman david coverdale Has announced his retirement.
The 74-year-old English rocker shared the news in a video posted to his social media account on Thursday, November 13.
“Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, brothers and sisters of the snake, a special announcement for you,” he began.
After an incredible journey of over 50 years with you dark purpleWith Whitesnake, with jimmy page – Over the past few years it has become very clear to me that it’s really time for me to give up my rock’n’roll platform shoes and my skintight jeans.”
He added: “As you can see, we’ve taken great care of the lion wig. But now it’s time for me to turn it off. I love you so much. I thank everyone who has helped and supported me on this incredible journey… but it’s really time for me to enjoy my retirement, and I hope you can appreciate that.”
The announcement was accompanied by a video montage of Coverdale’s career, set to the Whitesnake song “Fare the Well” from their 2011 album. foreverOre.
Before forming Whitesnake in London in 1978, Coverdale was best known as the vocalist for Deep Purple between 1973 and 1976. He appeared on three of the band’s albums: 1974’s burn And storm Bringer, and the decade of 1975 Come taste the band.
He and the other members of Deep Purple were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016. Coverdale also collaborated with Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page on a 1993 album. Coverdale-Page.

Coverdale expressed doubt in a 2023 interview whether Whitesnake would ever return to the stage, as he revealed that the previous year he had been “incredibly compromised” by “the worst sinus infection I’ve ever had in my life”.
His latest album, flesh and blood, Was released in 2019. Whitesnake are forced to cancel the remaining European farewell tour dates in 2022 health challenges among their members.
