Bhubaneswar, Nov 14 (IANS) After 13 rounds of counting for Nuapada Assembly constituency, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Jai Dholakia is leading over his nearest rival Snehangini Chhuria of Biju Janata Dal (BJD) by more than 43,000 votes.
After 13 rounds of counting, Dholakia has got 63,522 votes, while Chhuria has got 20,288 votes.
Congress candidate and tribal leader Ghasiram Majhi has got 20,103 votes.
Speaking to media persons, BJP state president Manmohan Samal said, “It is clear that the common people of Nuapada wanted a change in the constituency and were giving a chance to the Bharatiya Janata Party. Today’s trend reflects this mood of the people of Nuapada.”
He further said that people’s confidence in the BJP has increased as various promises made by the state government and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the last few years have been implemented on the ground.
Samal claimed that the people of Nuapada campaigned as a star campaigner for the BJP.
He said that the people of Nuapada believe that voting for BJP will ensure all-round development of the area and help in solving basic problems.
The state BJP president alleged that the previous BJD and Congress governments had failed to take any steps to address issues like bonded labour, problems of kendu leaf pluckers, absence of industries in the area and lack of tourism development in the area.
Taking aim at the opposition over allegations of election manipulation and distribution of money, Samal said that BJP has faced defeat in elections several times since its inception, but it has never made such allegations.
He advised the opposition parties to introspect and identify the reasons behind their “loss”.
Samal further said that if opposition parties find any illegal activities during the election process, they should approach the appropriate authorities instead of making baseless allegations publicly.
