Ahmedabad/Itanagar, Nov 13 (IANS) Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lieutenant General KT Parnaik (Retd) said the relationship between the northeastern state and Gujarat is rooted in cultural ties dating back several centuries.
After attending the Bharat Parv-2025 at the iconic Statue of Unity in Gujarat’s Ekta Nagar on Wednesday, the Governor said the bond between Arunachal Pradesh and Gujarat is beautifully expressed in the shared mythology, especially the story of Lord Krishna and Rukmini.
He said the Madhavpur fair in Gujarat, which celebrates their divine marriage, serves as a vibrant cultural bridge between the two states, especially considering that Rukmini was born in Bismaknagar in Arunachal Pradesh.
Speaking on the occasion, Lieutenant General Paranayak (Retd) said that Gujarat, the land of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, holds a special place in the civic and youth initiatives of Arunachal Pradesh.
During occasions like ‘National Unity Day’, Patel’s life and legacy are highlighted in schools and public forums to remind the youth of his important role in uniting the nation, he said.
“His foresight and the decisive steps taken by Major Bob Khating ensured that Tawang remains an integral part of India, a legacy that will continue to guide Arunachal Pradesh’s sense of belonging and national pride.”
The Governor appreciated the contribution of the vibrant Gujarati community in Arunachal Pradesh, saying that they have truly embodied the spirit of “One India, Best India”.
Governor Pernaik said, “This partnership was reflected in the Gujarat Foundation Day celebrations at Raj Bhavan, where local school children, including children with disabilities, were invited as special guests to experience the colours, traditions and stories of Gujarat.”
He said that such exchanges are creating a generation of youth in Arunachal Pradesh who are confident, inquisitive and connected to the cultural diversity of India.
Highlighting the progress of the State, the Governor said that Arunachal Pradesh is moving forward on a confident development path based on clear vision and committed leadership.
He said that in the last five years, more than 4,000 km of roads have been built in challenging terrain, improving mobility, strengthening security and connecting remote communities.
The Governor said that Arunachal Pradesh has immense potential for tourism, spiritual, cultural, adventure, nature and eco-tourism, supported by its pristine landscape and rich heritage.
The Governor said that Gujarat’s success in cooperative development, dairy management, horticulture and tourism offers valuable models for Arunachal Pradesh.
Also, Arunachal Pradesh brings its own strengths to this partnership.
Arunachal Pradesh is the largest producer of kiwi in India, its mandarin oranges and large cardamom are gaining national prominence, and its vast hydropower potential positions it as a future contributor to the country’s clean energy needs.
He called for a joint partnership of the two states for mutual benefit and shared commitment to nation building.
Inviting the Chief Minister, Ministers and officials of ‘Vibrant Gujarat’ to visit Arunachal Pradesh, the Governor called for deeper cooperation to strengthen national harmony and contribute to a more united and visionary India.
