Kalaburagi (Karnataka), November 13 (ANS) The Karnataka government on Thursday gave permission for the centenary procession of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in Chittapur town of Kalaburagi district.

Advocate General Shashi Kiran Shetty on Thursday informed the Kalaburagi bench of the Karnataka High Court about the state government’s decision.

Shetty told the court that the state government has given permission for the RSS foot march to be held on November 16.

He also said that the authorities had approved the participation of 300 volunteers along with 20 band players and drummers.

However, the court increased the number of band players and drummers to 50.

District authorities had earlier refused permission for the RSS foot march citing law and order concerns.

The court had later directed the authorities to hold a peace meeting with the RSS and other organizations to reach an amicable solution.

Some of these organizations filed petitions for permission to take out the procession on the same day as the RSS.

He demanded that the RSS should not carry lathi or ‘saffron flag’ during the march, but should instead carry the national flag and the Preamble of the Constitution.

Chittapur is represented by Karnataka Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Priyank Kharge, son of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.

Following Priyank’s letter banning RSS activities in public places, the Karnataka government issued an order making it mandatory for private organizations to obtain official consent before organizing events in public areas.

The Advocate General also told the court that the state government had given conditional, outright permission for the RSS foot march.

RSS had sought approval for 800 volunteers to join the foot march.

“All factors have been taken into consideration,” he said, adding that RSS foot marches have been organized at some places with 100 to 150 participants.

RSS lawyer Arun Shyam requested the court to allow 800 participants to join the march.

After recording the arguments, the court closed the case.

RSS’s foot march will be held on November 16 between 3:30 pm to 5:45 pm.

The court has allowed 300 RSS volunteers to participate along with 50 drummers and band players.
