Chennai, Nov 13 (IANS) Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK) has called for a statewide protest on Sunday, November 16, taking strong objection to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls.
The party, led by actor-turned-politician Vijay, is preparing for a major mobilization across Tamil Nadu and demonstrations have been planned at all district headquarters.
According to senior party officials, TVK has directed its district secretaries and local leaders to organize a coordinated protest at 11 am on the scheduled day.
State level functionaries are expected to lead the demonstrations in key districts, while regional and union level functionaries will monitor local mobilization and ensure maximum participation.
Party sources indicated that TVK’s primary argument is that the SIR exercise, which is currently being conducted by the Election Commission of India, could have “serious implications” for voter inclusivity and transparency.
The leadership has reportedly expressed concern that a large section of eligible voters may face procedural hurdles or be at risk due to alleged flaws in the door-to-door verification process.
TVK insiders said the protest is being positioned not just as a political demonstration but as a public-awareness campaign aimed at highlighting what the party sees as potential risks in the amendment process.
A senior functionary said, “The message is clear all the way down to the cadre – it is about protecting the democratic right to vote. Every district unit has been asked to engage with the public, distribute awareness leaflets and explain how SIR can affect common voters.”
The party has also directed its district teams to document local complaints related to the ongoing revision, including complaints about booth-level officers (BLOs), alleged inaccuracies in the draft rolls and reports of missing names.
TVK sources said these findings would be consolidated and presented as a formal representation to the Chief Electoral Officer following the protests.

Party insiders said the statement would outline the protest plan, appeal for disciplined participation and present the movement as a democratic intervention rather than a confrontation with election officials.
With the 2026 assembly elections approaching, political observers believe TVK’s move signals an increase in its political message and grassroots activity. The November 16 protest is expected to be the party’s most extensive statewide mobilization since its inception, and TVK leaders believe it will help strengthen their organizational strength ahead of the election season.
