Bengaluru, Nov 12 (IANS) Reacting to the Delhi blasts that took eight lives, BJP MLC CT Ravi on Wednesday said India has seen several “mass killings” due to “religious fundamentalism” and this should be curbed.
Speaking to the media, he said that the Delhi blasts should not be seen as an isolated incident.
Former BJP national general secretary Ravi said that even during the British rule, there was a Mappila rebellion in Malabar, Kerala, during which Hindus were victims of mass killings.
He said that there was a large-scale massacre during the ‘Direct Action’ movement in West Bengal. After independence, similar massacres took place during the Razakar movement.
The BJP leader said AICC chief Mallikarjun Kharge’s family also faced such violence – they lost their mother and brother.
He reminded that after independence, thousands of bomb blasts have taken place across the country.
He said that 90 percent of those involved were terrorists inspired by Islamic ideology and 10 percent were Maoists or influenced by the ideology of Karl Marx.
“The goal of all these groups, he explained, is to create violence, murder and fear – all part of a conspiracy to subjugate India through terror,” he claimed.
CT Ravi said, “It was once said that poor and uneducated people easily get trapped in terrorist networks. But Osama bin Laden had assets worth thousands of crores, he ate not with silver spoons but with gold spoons studded with diamonds and lived a life of extreme luxury – yet he became a terrorist.”
He pointed out that the suspected terrorists arrested recently are also not illiterate – many are doctors, some are engineers, and many come from rich families.
Saying that no other country in the world offers as much religious freedom as India, he stressed the need to identify the reason.
He said that even the Ganesh procession has to be taken out amidst fear and tension, but the Eid-e-Milad procession never faced such fear.
“Then why do they still feel the need to plant bombs?” he asked.
He quoted a cleric as saying, killing innocents is against Islam. “People commit terrorist acts in the name of spreading Islam. I want to ask, what Islam do they actually represent?” he asked.
