BJP criticizes Siddaramaiah over Delhi blasts statement, calls it part of Congress’s ‘anti-national legacy’

Bengaluru, Nov 12 (IANS) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s statement questioning the timing of the powerful car blast near the Red Fort in Delhi has drawn sharp criticism from the state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has termed the remarks as a reflection of the Congress party’s ‘anti-national legacy’.

The blast, which is currently under investigation, took place on Monday, killing at least 12 people and injuring about 20.

State BJP president and MLA BY Vijayendra on Wednesday accused the Congress of continuing its “anti-national” approach, recalling that even after the 2019 Pulwama attack, party leaders had made comments that helped Pakistan’s propaganda.

Terming Siddaramaiah’s comments as “irresponsible, insensitive and low-level political statements”, Vijayendra said, “The Karnataka Chief Minister’s comments were also in the same spirit. When the sovereignty and security of the nation is at stake, the entire country must stand together. The Congress leadership’s attempt to use such situations for political gain reveals their true nature.”

Vijayendra said, at a time when the entire country should be united against the attack, these leaders are indulging in petty politics – a tragedy for the state and misfortune for the nation.

He alleged that for the Congress party, matters of national security, loss and suffering of civilians, sacrifice of soldiers and honor of the nation have also regrettably become instruments of political gain.

Vijayendra reminded that during the United Progressive Alliance rule (2004-2014), when hundreds of innocent people lost their lives in more than 45 bomb blasts and terrorist attacks, including the 2008 Mumbai attacks, the then Central government took very little meaningful action. Still, he said, the opposition refrained from politicizing national security while recognizing the need for unity.

He criticized Siddaramaiah and ruling party leaders for resorting to political tactics to divert attention from allegations of administrative failure, lack of development and widespread corruption, saying people were expressing their displeasure.

Vijayendra said, “The Chief Minister should immediately withdraw his statement. Just as the people of Bihar responded to the anti-national and insensitive politics of the Congress party, the people of our state will also give them a befitting reply.”

He said, “This is not about party politics – for every true patriot, it has always been and will always be: ‘Nation first, everything else second.’

The controversy stems from Siddaramaiah’s response to media queries in Mysuru on Tuesday as to why incidents like the Delhi blasts happen during elections.

The Chief Minister had said, “The Center should answer why such blasts take place during elections. Let the Central Government investigate it.”

He said that such incidents, in which innocent people lose their lives, are tragic.
