New Delhi, Nov 11 (IANS) The BJP on Tuesday sought clarification from the Congress on where its leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were on the day of the deadly terror blast near the Red Fort. Amit Malviya, in-charge of the BJP’s national information and technology department, said, “Congress should issue a formal statement on the whereabouts of Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Vadra on the day of the Delhi blasts and in the hours after.” “The country has a right to know where the two key decision makers of the Congress were when India was being attacked,” he said, raising doubts over whether the two leaders were physically present in the city or country to share the grief of the victims. Malviya’s criticism of Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi came within hours of Rahul Gandhi expressing grief over the incident on social media. Speaking to X on Monday, Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi said, “The news of the car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort metro station is extremely heart-wrenching and worrying. The news of the death of many innocent people in this tragic incident is extremely sad.” Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi said, “In this hour of grief, I stand with the bereaved families who have lost their loved ones and express my deepest condolences to them. I hope for the speedy recovery of all the injured.” Similarly, Congress MP from Wayanad Priyanka Gandhi also described the incident as “heartbreaking” and said, “May the departed souls rest in peace. My deepest condolences to the bereaved families. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured.” The political rivalry between the BJP and the Congress escalated on Tuesday when Malviya hit out at the “shameless” Congress for “working against the national interest” and condemned the opposition parties’ attempt to “politicize” the tragedy in which eight people were killed. A BJP leader said, “If being shameless and working against the national interest had a face, it would look exactly like the Congress.” Malviya, who is in charge of the BJP’s national information and technology department, said, “The problem with our opposition and the far left ecosystem is that they do not know how to stand with the country in its time of need.” Congress national spokesperson Supriya Shrinate said, “It is very worrying that 13 Indians have been murdered in the national capital Delhi. The problem is that about 2,600 kg of explosives were seized in Faridabad. Seven months ago there was a terrorist attack in Pahalgam. I think it is a matter of concern. How is this happening?” –IANS rch/dan
