The Pakistani Taliban (TTP), which has links to the Afghan Taliban, has denied any involvement in the attack.

In another incident, at least 16 members of Pakistan’s security forces were injured in an improvised explosive device (IED) attack targeting a convoy in the restive north-western province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to an official.

Officials said the convoy, which included Pakistani Army and Frontier Corps personnel, was returning from Loni post in Dera Ismail Khan district when a roadside bomb exploded in Loni village late on Monday night.

Separately, the Pakistani military said security forces killed at least 20 Taliban militants in two operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday.
