Hyderabad, November 11 (IANS) Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, his cabinet colleagues and other leaders on Tuesday bid farewell to eminent poet and lyricist Andesari, who was cremated with police honors at Ghatkesar on the outskirts of Hyderabad. Andesari, who wrote the state song ‘Jai Jaihe Telangana’, died on Monday. Before the funeral, the Chief Minister shouldered Andesari’s bier. A contingent of policemen gave a gun salute, fired shots in the air and observed two minutes silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul. The funeral procession, which started from Andesari’s house in Lalapet, passed through Tarnaka and Uppal before reaching Ghatkesar. The Chief Minister paid tribute to the poet and consoled the family. Ministers Jupalli Krishna Rao, Sridhar Baby, Adaluri Laxman, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President Mahesh Kumar Goud, senior leader K. Keshav Rao, V. Hanumantha Rao and Kodandaram participated in the funeral. Family members, relatives and friends bid a tearful farewell to Andesari, who died of heart failure on Monday. He was 64 years old. Andesri was shifted to Gandhi Hospital late on Sunday night after he collapsed at his home in Lalapet. The eminent poet played an important role in the Telangana movement through his writings and songs. His composition ‘Jaya Jayahe Telangana Janani Jaya Ketanam’ became the anthem of the state struggle and was adopted as the official state song by the Congress government in 2023. Meanwhile, speaking to media persons after the last rites, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said Endesree’s demise was a big loss for Telangana and a personal loss for him. He recalled his meeting with Andesri during his padayatra as state Congress president. He said the support of the eminent poet inspired Congress workers. The Chief Minister also announced that the state Cabinet will take a decision on including Andesari’s son ‘Jaya Jayahe Telangana’ in the textbooks in its next meeting. He announced that a member of Andesari’s family would be given a government job. He said that the government will construct a suitable memorial for the people’s poet. CM Revanth Reddy requested the Center to honor Andesri with Padma Shri. –IANS MS/SVN
