Located on a prime seaside lot and affectionately referred to by locals as ‘hotel Korcula’, it’s a venue that respects its heritage and celebrates all the culinary and coastal delights the picture-perfect island has to offer.

Place

Looking at the crystal clear waters of Adriatic SeaAmnes Unique Korcula Heritage Hotel is located on the harbor which winds through the narrow streets of Korcula Old Town. There is no airport on the island, so you will need to fly into Split or dubrovnik And take a catamaran of two hours 30 minutes to reach the island. The ferry terminal is a five-minute walk from the hotel, so there’s no further journey once you arrive.

Korcula Old Town is mostly pedestrianized, but if you want to explore rent a car rough beach Spread around the island, parking is available outside the hotel for €15 (£13) per day or at the nearby ferry terminal. Scooters and bikes are readily available for rent, or you can take a taxi from the Ranka, located a short walk from the hotel. A grand archway near the hotel reception leads to a lounge area that reflects the hotel’s old-world charm, twinkling with two chandeliers, an easily stocked bar serving Korculan-made gin, as well as a cigar menu and books to read. Guests are served meals on a palm-fringed patio overlooking the marina, where luxury yachts arrive each evening to catch a glimpse of the spectacular sunset. During summer, you can sit here and enjoy the sunset while listening to live jazz music.

Service

The hotel staff are full of local knowledge about Korčula and its surrounding islands in the archipelago. Their passion for the place is infectious and after an overview at check-in of the best family-friendly beaches, local swimming spots, wineries and even where to go deer watching (Badija Island if you’re wondering), I had an itinerary that could cover at least a week-long stay on the island. They will also make recommendations based on whether you have a car or not.

There is a 24-hour reception, where there is always someone available to help, whether you need to book a taxi or need beach towels. Guests are welcomed with a welcome gift of mini chocolate cakes, deer-shaped sugar biscuits and salted nuts while you relax in your room overlooking the bright blue Adriatic Sea.

The rooms are light and airy, drenched in cool coastal blues and warm grays in keeping with the oceanfront location. Standard and comfortable rooms come with a choice of twin beds or queen beds, while superior rooms and suites have only the latter beds. Most rooms can only accommodate two guests, unless you book a cozy suite, which has a queen-size bed on the mezzanine and a sofa bed below. The cozy and luxury suites come with a lounge area that reflects the soft elegance found throughout the hotel, featuring powder blue tufted chairs and a crystal chandelier.

In all rooms you’ll find a TV, Nespresso machines, luxurious white robes and a hair dryer; Additional amenities such as ironing boards are available upon request. Bathrooms are stocked with ritual toiletries and have both rainfall and handheld showers. All rooms face the ocean, and most feature tall, arched windows, so you can sip your morning coffee while you watch the boats come in. Due to the building’s listed status, which prevents alterations to the facade, standard rooms come with a very small rectangular window.
