Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, speaking at the CII Health Summit on Tuesday, November 11, called the blast at Delhi’s Red Fort metro station a “tragic bomb blast”.

Commenting on the blasts in Delhi on Monday (November 10) evening that killed at least 12 people, he said India needed to respond “responsibly but firmly” as “terrorism is raising its head once again”.

The minister said, “We all have to be very conscious about the protection of our environment, we have to be very careful about terrorism raising its head again. And these terrorists make a last ditch effort to show their relevance.”

He appreciated the efforts of doctors and health professionals in providing prompt treatment to the injured.

Goyal said, “It was the doctors who provided immediate emergency care at LNJP Hospital, where the injured were shifted. This kind of first responder, critical care service that you give is indeed a matter of pride for the country and all of us.”

He was speaking at the CII Health Summit.

He said the ministry has been able to lay the foundation for affordable healthcare and will now issue visa on arrival for healthcare tourism, especially to tourists from the US, European countries and other countries that maintain good relations with India.

Also, Goyal said that he will ensure that healthcare tourism does not come at the expense of healthcare of Indian citizens.

“If the highest bidder is allowed to get hospitalization then there cannot be a situation where Indians on Indian soil are deprived of healthcare,” he said.

He also said that India will not compromise the interests of its dairy sector, farmers and workers amid global trade pressure.

Goyal said that as the US market is facing adverse conditions, India has initiated talks with Russia and West Asian countries to expand export opportunities. He said that inspection of 25 fish exporters, which was pending, is now being done expeditiously. Emphasizing on resilience, the minister said India was not a weak country and would “find ways to support its exporters”, adding that the country “has the wherewithal to face any challenge on earth.”
