Srinagar, Nov 11 (IANS) A day after the deadly blast in Delhi, families and relatives of Kashmiris involved in the blast or the conspiracy have expressed complete ignorance about the involvement of these white-collar terrorists in terror activities. Dr Mohammad Omar, who reportedly died in the blast after the i20 car he was driving near the Red Fort, belonged to a poor family from Koil village in Pulwama district. Umar’s mother Shamima and two brothers Zahoor and Aashiq have been arrested by the police for questioning and DNA matching. Dr Omar is believed to have carried out the suicide blast, apparently in panic after his colleagues Dr Muzamil and Dr Adil were arrested by the police. Neighbors in Koil village said Mohammed Umar was a hard-working, studious boy with no terrorist inclinations, although he was deeply religious since his teenage years. Mohammad Omar’s father is mentally challenged. He lost his government teaching job after losing his mental balance. Neighbors said Umar’s family would say that their ordeal ended after Umar got a job after completing his MBBS from the prestigious Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar. Mohammad Umar had secured a seat in the medical college on the basis of merit. Dr. Muzamil, another white collar terrorist involved in this terrorist conspiracy, is also a resident of Koil village. His father, Ashiq, owns a local orchard, and the family is prosperous. Muzammil’s sister Asmat has also completed her MBBS training and her brother Azad is preparing for the NEET exam to get into medical school. Family members said it was difficult for them to believe that Muzamil was involved in the terror module. Dr Muzammil’s sister and brother told reporters on Tuesday, “He was a great supporter of the Indian cricket team during the matches with Pakistan. He had no reason to be influenced by terrorism as he was from a good family and we were all looking forward to his bright future in the medical profession.” Neighbors, while not disclosing his name, said that Muzammil, who did MBBS from Batra Medical College, Jammu, had strong religious inclinations even in his teenage years. Now intelligence agencies have confirmed that when the i20 car exploded near the Red Fort, Dr. Mohammad Omar was traveling in it. Jammu and Kashmir Police and Haryana Police, in a coordinated action, on Monday recovered 2900 kg of ammonium nitrate, an assault rifle, a pistol, timer device etc. from the rented residence of Muzamil in Faridabad, Haryana. The arrest of Dr Adil in October on charges of posting Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) posters exposed the entire terror module. An assault rifle was recovered from Adil’s locker at the Government Medical College, Anantnag. Adil worked at Anantnag Medical College till October 2024. Raids are going on at several places in the Valley and Faridabad to nab other people involved in the white-collar terrorist module. Intelligence agencies say the white-collar terror module was planning to avenge the death of Jaish-e-Mohammed founder Azhar Masood’s family members during Operation Sindoor. –IANS class/dpb
