Mysore (Karnataka), November 11 (IANS) On the question of why incidents like Delhi blasts happen during elections, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said the Center should answer why such blasts happen during elections. He was speaking to the media after presiding over the Karnataka Development Program (KDP) meeting held at his native Mysore on Tuesday. When reporters, referring to the recent Delhi blasts, asked why bomb blasts happen during elections and whether it could affect Bihar elections, the CM replied: “The Center should answer why such blasts happen during elections. Let the Central government investigate and answer. Such incidents are tragic – it is extremely unfortunate that innocent people lose their lives.” When asked if India was becoming a nation defined by one religion, CM Siddaramaiah replied, “India is a constitutionally pluralistic country, not a mono-religion nation.” It may be recalled that the blast, which took place in a car at the traffic signal outside Gate No. 1 of the Red Ford Metro station, sent shockwaves through the bustling area of Old Delhi, setting several vehicles on fire and shattering windows nearby. Eyewitnesses described a deafening roar that “felt like the earth was collapsing”, accompanied by plumes of black smoke from the debris. Notably, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday morning busted an interstate terror module linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind terror outfits, leading to the recovery of 2,900 kg of explosives, two assault rifles, pistols, timers and other material in Haryana’s Faridabad area near New Delhi. Police said seven people have been arrested so far. The recovery, following the explosion at the Red Fort, took place just a day before the second phase of Bihar assembly elections. Talking about his impending Delhi visit, the CM mentioned that he will visit Delhi on November 15 to attend senior leader Kapil Sibal’s program and may return on the same day. “If the high command allows, I will meet him – but no appointment has been finalized yet,” he said. He further said, “Organized crimes cannot take place without the knowledge of the police officers. Therefore, if the crime rate increases, the officers themselves will be responsible. I have directed that Mysuru be made a drug-free district.” “In Mangaluru district, after the transfer of just two officers responsible during the recent communal clashes, the entire district has now become calm. If two officers can bring such a difference there, the same can happen elsewhere too. Police officers just need to work with professionalism and commitment,” he said. The CM also directed DCs, ACs and Tehsildars to ensure speedy disposal of cases pending in their courts. “Of the 8,000 pending cases in Mysuru district in the last two years, about 7,540 have already been resolved. The rest should also be resolved soon,” he said. Giving details of the meeting, CM Siddaramaiah said, “Taluk level officers should remain posted at their respective headquarters. I have directed the Deputy Commissioner to report those violating this rule. Police officers, commissioners and IGPs have been instructed to take steps to increase the punishment rate. “Police officers should personally visit and inspect the crime scene. Barring criminals, real estate mafias and miscreants, the police should treat the general public with respect.” ”The discussion on Greater Mysore has started. After detailed deliberations, the proposal will go to the cabinet, he said. CM Siddaramaiah said that he has warned the officials. I told him that I will not tolerate that citizens are made to run from one office to another. this is unacceptable. Officers should stay in their talukas, listen to public complaints and resolve them. DCs have been directed to report those failing to comply. The CM expressed concern over the drop in the education index of Mysuru district from 7th to 14th position and termed it unacceptable. Mysuru is a native of CM Siddaramaiah. “Development in Mysuru should pick up pace. Despite earlier instructions, progress has been slow to satisfactory,” he said. “Both the state and Mysuru district have received good rainfall this year. There is no problem of agricultural work or drinking water. Tamil Nadu has already got more than enough water,” he said. –IANS MKA/Red
