Lewis Hamilton and his ferrari teammates Charles Leclerc Told by team president to “concentrate on your driving and talk less” John Elkann,
Hamilton and Leclerc failed to finish on Sunday Sao Paulo placed sixth and fifth in the Grand Prix and drivers’ championships respectively, while Ferrari dropped from second to fourth in the constructors’ standings.
Hamilton was eventually retired by Ferrari on lap 40 at São Paulo after colliding with Carlos Sainz’s Williams and then Alpine’s Franco Colapinto early in the race.
The seven-time world champion also received a five-point penalty for an incorrect attempt to overtake Colapinto, while Leclerc was forced to retire on lap six after a collision which was not his fault.
Speaking at an event in Milan to promote the 2026 Winter Olympics and quoted by Gazzetta dello Sport, Elkann said: “In Formula 1, on the one hand, we have mechanics who did their job, which includes poles and pit stops.
“The engineers did the same, the car was clearly improved. Everything else was fine.”
Elkann pointed the finger at the Ferrari drivers and said: “They should concentrate on driving and talk less. We still have a few races left, and finishing second is not impossible.”
Hamilton said after the race at Interlagos that it was a “disastrous result” and said on Sky Sports: “It’s a nightmare, and I’ve been living it for some time.
“The transition between the ups and downs, the dream of driving for this amazing team and the nightmare of the results we’ve achieved, it’s challenging.”
Hamilton said in a later interview with Viaplay that “it would be wrong to say there are no positives”.
“If you look at Charles’s performance in qualifying, it shows there is some pace in the car,” said the 40-year-old.
“But we really have to fight those difficulties at this time. I have to believe that these difficulties go ahead… I believe that there is something extraordinary ahead in my life and in my destiny.
“I still really believe in this team and what we can accomplish together. I just have to keep trying and give them everything I can.”
