Chennai, Nov 11 (IANS) The Regional Meteorological Center (RMC), Chennai, has predicted heavy rainfall at one or two places in Tirunelveli, Tenkasi and Kanyakumari districts of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday. The weather department also indicated that moderate to heavy rainfall is likely over parts of Ramanathapuram and Thoothukudi districts on Wednesday (November 12). In its latest weather bulletin, the RMC said localized heat conditions over isolated parts of southern Tamil Nadu along with moisture laden winds from the southwest may cause intense rainfall with thunder and lightning. This activity is expected to continue for the next 48 hours, especially in the coastal belt and surrounding hilly areas. Meanwhile, Chennai is expected to remain partly cloudy throughout the day. The weather office said there is a possibility of light to moderate rain and thundershowers in some areas of the city, especially during the evening and night. “Chennai will have partly cloudy sky. Light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning may occur at isolated places,” the RMC bulletin said. According to the forecast, the maximum temperature in Chennai is likely to be around 32 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature will be between 25 degrees to 26 degrees. Coastal humidity levels are expected to remain high, making it a hot and sticky feeling during the day. The department advised the public and local administration in the southern districts to remain alert for sudden heavy rains and avoid waterlogged or low-lying areas. Farmers and fishermen have been urged to keep a close eye on the weather department’s updates before venturing into agricultural activities or sea-related work. With the Northeast Monsoon continuing to be active, intermittent rain is expected over many parts of Tamil Nadu throughout the week, which will bring relief to dry areas but may also pose a risk of localized flooding in some areas, weather officials said. –IANS AL/DPB
