New Delhi, Nov 10 (IANS) A powerful explosion in parked cars near Delhi’s Red Fort metro station on Monday evening rocked the capital, killing at least 10 people and injuring a dozen others, prompting authorities to beef up security across the country, especially in neighboring Uttar Pradesh, commercial capital Mumbai and key establishments like the RSS headquarters in Nagpur.

It is noteworthy that security has also been tightened at the RSS headquarters in Nagpur.

Minutes after the blast incident at Delhi’s Red Fort left eight dead and a dozen injured, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Home Minister Amit Shah and received an update on the situation.

According to government sources, PM Modi has taken stock of the situation.

Similarly, sources reveal that Home Minister Amit Shah also spoke to Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha and Intelligence Bureau chief Tapan Deka.

The Union Home Minister also spoke to NIA DG Sadanand Vasant Date and advised him to send an NIA team to the spot.

The victims have been taken to LNJP Hospital. Sources said that high alert has been issued for Delhi, Mumbai and Uttar Pradesh.

The areas near the Red Fort in Old Delhi are among the most congested areas in the national capital. Although information about the damage caused by the incident is not yet known, several fire engines have been sent to the spot.

Many reports and social media so far are pointing towards a terrorist aspect; There has been no official confirmation on this.

Notably, Jammu and Kashmir Police in the morning busted an inter-state international terror module linked to terror outfits Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, leading to the recovery of 2,900 kg of explosives, two assault rifles, pistols, timers and other material in Faridabad area of Haryana near New Delhi. Police said seven people have been arrested so far.
