Chennai, November 10 (IANS) AIADMK general secretary and Leader of Opposition (LOP) in Tamil Nadu Assembly Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Monday accused the ruling DMK of opposing the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list.
He said that the party fears losing the opportunity due to fake voting in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections.
Speaking to reporters in Coimbatore, Palaniswami said the AIADMK has approached the Supreme Court to “expose the truth” behind DMK’s false propaganda on the amendment process.
“Why are the DMK and its allies panicking? They are spreading misinformation that SIR will take away people’s voting rights. This process has been done eight times before in Tamil Nadu and is part of the regular mechanism of the Election Commission,” he said.
The former chief minister claimed that the DMK, unable to find any flaw in AIADMK’s governance record, had resorted to misleading attacks.
“After the alliance talks, Union Home Minister Amit Shah made it clear that AIADMK will lead the alliance and form the next government, in which I am the chief ministerial candidate. When this is so, why does Stalin keep blaming the BJP? Because he has no real issue to criticize us.”
Palaniswami also took a dig at Chief Minister MK Stalin and alleged that he was laying the foundation stone of projects without allocating funds. “People are seething with anger and waiting to remove this anti-people government. Announcements are made for publicity, not governance,” he claimed.
Condemning the incidents of sexual assault and murders in Tamil Nadu, the Leader of Opposition said there is “no protection for women and children” under the DMK rule. Referring to the recent gang rape of a college student in Coimbatore, he alleged that criminals “no longer fear the police.”
He alleged, “Despite the Supreme Court’s direction, a permanent DGP has not been appointed. Law and order has collapsed.”
Responding to expelled AIADMK minister KA Sengottaiyan’s claim that Palaniswami’s family members interfere in party affairs, the AIADMK leader dismissed it as a “false campaign”.
He said reports that Sengottaiyan was working on behalf of the BJP to re-unite AIADMK factions were baseless.
