New Delhi, Nov 10 (IANS) Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Monday attended the road show of BJP candidate Anita Jain from Shalimar Bagh-B of MCD and the nomination process of another candidate in the by-election to be held on November 30. A party leader gave this information.
Responding to the public response to the road show, CM Gupta said on Twitter, “With your blessings, our resolve to develop Delhi has become even stronger. This blessing will further strengthen our energy and commitment towards good governance, public trust and transparent development.”
The by-elections have gained importance as experts term it a barometer to measure the popularity of the CM Gupta-led Delhi government. He says the result is reflective of the political sentiment of the city, with the BJP returning to power in the assembly after 27 years earlier this year.
He said, “Today I had the opportunity to participate in the nomination road show of Municipal Corporation candidate Anita Jain from Shalimar Bagh-B, Ward No. 56 and saw the unprecedented enthusiasm and affection of the public.”
He said, from the warmth and blessings with which the people of the area welcomed him, it is clear that the immense support of the public is with the BJP in all the 12 wards including Shalimar Bagh-B.
CM Gupta also participated in the puja before the nomination of Veena Asija, the candidate from Ashok Vihar, Ward 65, in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) by-election and wished her good luck, an official said.
In a post on Twitter, the CM said, “Veena Asija’s dedication, hard work and diligence towards public service has earned her a special place among the people. She will get the full blessings and immense affection of the people of this ward.”
The Chief Minister said that this by-election is a very important step towards ensuring continuous local development, cleanliness and order in Delhi.
He said, “All our candidates are committed to serve the public with complete dedication, honesty and transparency. It is a matter of pride for us that out of our total 12 candidates, 8 are women.”
She said, “This clearly reflects our commitment to empower women power with leadership and proper representation. I wish each candidate all the best for their upcoming election campaign. I am confident that the enlightened citizens of Delhi will extend their valuable blessings and support to this pledge of service.”
The vacant wards include Mundka, Shalimar Bagh-B, Ashok Vihar, Chandni Chowk, Chandni Mahal, Dwarka B, Dichaon Kalan, Naraina, Sangam Vihar-A, Dakshin Puri (SC), Greater Kailash, and Vinod Nagar.
These wards come under major assembly constituencies like Mundka, Wazirpur, Matiala, Najafgarh, Rajendra Nagar, Deoli and Patparganj.
The by-elections had become necessary after councilors from these seats were elected to Parliament and Delhi Assembly in the last 12 months.
11 Councilors including CM Gupta were elected Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs). Dwarka-B ward has been vacant since BJP’s Kamaljit Sehrawat was elected MP from West Delhi last year.
According to an MCD official, at present the BJP has 116 councilors in the 250-member Municipal Corporation House, AAP has 98, Indraprastha Vikas Party has 15, Congress has eight and one seat is with an independent.
