A technical problem with the Automatic Message Switching System (AMSS), which supports air traffic control’s flight planning process, resulted in over 800 flights being delayed and 46 canceled on Friday (November 7) at the Delhi airport, the country’s busiest airport.
“Due to the coordinated efforts of ECIL engineers, ATC (air traffic control) personnel and active monitoring of the Ministry, the system was restored to fully automated mode by the afternoon of November 8. No flights were canceled today due to this issue,” the Civil Aviation Ministry said in a statement on Saturday (November 8) evening.
These systems belong to Electronics Corporation of India Limited (ECIL).
Naidu visited the ATC tower at Delhi airport on Friday (November 7) and Saturday (November 8).
According to the statement, the minister has directed that a detailed root cause analysis be conducted to prevent recurrence of such irregularities in future.

Naidu has also directed officials to plan more system advancements, including additional or fallback servers, to strengthen ATC operations.
The ministry said that the technical problem with AMSS occurred on the afternoon of 6 November and continued till the morning of 7 November.
On Friday (November 7), teams from the Airports Authority of India (AAI), Air Navigation Services (ANS) and ECIL worked around the clock to identify and rectify the problem. ECIL immediately deputed additional manpower to assist in the restoration process, the release said.
Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in the national capital, which has four runways, handles over 1,500 flight movements daily.
