Kolkata, Nov 8 (IANS) The Trinamool Congress has written to the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of West Bengal, saying the definition of “relative” in the ongoing Special In-depth Review (SIR) of the Election Commission of India (ECI), which began in West Bengal from November 4, is inconsistent.
In a letter to West Bengal CEO, Manoj Kumar Agarwal, a copy of which is available with IANS, the Trinamool Congress has accused the ECI of speaking in two voices on this “relative” issue.
The Trinamool Congress has claimed that although Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar had clearly stated on October 27 that a person can enter the name of his uncle or other relatives in the SIR enumeration form, the statement in fact contradicts the written instructions given by the commission to booth level officers (BLOs) as well as the BLO software interface, which clearly says that only parents and grandparents can be counted under the “relative” category. Could.
“The dropdown menu in the BLO app currently shows limited relationship options – son, daughter, grandson, granddaughter and transgender – with no provision to select other relationships such as brother, sister, uncle or any other blood relation,” the Trinamool Congress letter to the West Bengal CEO said.
On Saturday, the Trinamool Congress also issued a statement questioning whether the Chief Election Commissioner’s statement or the ECI’s action in the matter should be believed.
“This contradiction has paralyzed BLOs across Bengal, created panic among voters, and exposed the dangerous gap between public statements and actual implementation. If Gyanesh Kumar’s statement is genuine, then why is the ECI refusing to act on it? The party has demanded that the ECI should immediately implement what the CEC says, or stop pretending to be neutral. “Bengal will not remain silent when rules are twisted for one side,” the party statement said.
