Bengaluru, Nov 8 (IANS) Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and state Congress president DK Shivakumar on Saturday announced that appointments to various corporations and boards in the state will be made within a week.
He made the statement while addressing a joint press conference with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in connection with the Congress’ campaign against ‘vote theft’ at the party office in Bengaluru.
Asked why party workers have not been appointed to the boards yet, Shivakumar said: “Already 3,000 workers have been given responsibilities. Fifteen people per constituency are in-charge of guarantee committees; 60 people have been nominated per constituency. At the state level, there are 600 corporation and board posts, and we will announce the appointments within a week.”
On the Bihar election campaign, he said, “Our leaders have worked hard. We have confidence in the people of Bihar. They want change – to protect the Constitution and democracy – and we are confident that they will give us a clear majority.”
Asked why the Congress did not file an affidavit or approach the courts regarding voter fraud allegations, Shivakumar said: “We are asking for documents from the Election Commission, but instead of giving us information, they ask us for evidence. Their data should be public. Once they provide the documents, we will file an affidavit.”
Shivakumar alleged, “After Rahul Gandhi exposed the irregularities in Mahadevapura, the media visited those places – there were 84 registered voters in one room, and 56 at once. What action did the Commission take? None. In Aland, our government constituted an SIT, yet the Commission refused to share the data.”
“The commission is working like a BJP agent and our aim is to raise awareness and protect the right to vote,” he said.
On whether the Election Commission was ignoring the allegations, he said, “More than 300 MPs have submitted a proposal to the Central Election Commission. There has been no response till date. They say they will file an FIR but will not take any action. They know who will be exposed if they investigate. Still, we are continuing our efforts.”
