The 58-year-old woman said she was “very angry” when she found out, but said she now feels in a “much more positive state” after having a lumpectomy in October.

“So I had a biopsy. I found out it was actually breast cancer, and I had it taken out in a lumpectomy about three weeks ago, and the margins, they take out a little extra, and they check the margins, and the margins are clear.
“It was very, very small, so I got it very, very quickly, which is incredibly lucky, but I’m so relieved to have it removed, and to know that it hasn’t spread.
“My lymph nodes were clean. I didn’t have any removed, and now what I’m going to do is have five days of radiotherapy in January as an insurance policy, and then I’m on my journey to try to stop it coming back.”

The NHS also said that people may be at higher risk if they have used the contraceptive pill or taken hormone replacement therapy in the last 10 years, although “these increase your risk only slightly and for many people the benefits of taking them outweigh the risks”.
