Bhopal, Nov 8 (IANS) The Congress on Saturday alleged that a large number of RSS workers have been appointed as Block Level Officers (BLOs) for the ongoing Special Intensive Vetting (SIR) exercise in Madhya Pradesh.
The Congress also alleged that the SIR process started without complete preparation, as most BLOs have not yet received Form 18 and people in more than 65 percent of the villages have not received those forms.
These shocking allegations were made during a press conference addressed by a group of senior Congress leaders including former chief minister Digvijay Singh, MP LOP Umang Singhar, PCC chief Jitu Patwari, former minister Sajjan Singh Verma and others.
“More than 1.5 lakh RSS workers have been nominated for BLO jobs in Madhya Pradesh,” senior leader Sajjan Singh Verma, who has been appointed as head of a Congress committee to look after the SIR issue in the state, said while briefing the media.
The Congress leader further claimed that the contact numbers of around 28,000 BLOs were not disclosed in the list provided by the Election Commission (EC).
“Why is the contact number of the BLO not mentioned in the list provided to the Congress party?” Verma asked.
Meanwhile, former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh alleged differences in the voter lists provided to political parties and presiding officers during the elections.
He demanded that the vote list be banned as soon as the election dates are announced.
While Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Madhya Pradesh Umang Singhar accused the BJP of hatching a conspiracy to remove around 50,000 eligible voters, especially from districts with tribal population.
He further said that Congress is strictly monitoring the SIR and will not allow it to remove eligible voters.
Notably, the Election Commission has launched the second phase of the SIR process in nine states and three Union Territories (UTs), including Madhya Pradesh, from November 4.
This exercise will continue till December 4. For this purpose, a Block Level Officer (BLO) has been deployed at each of the 65,014 polling stations across the state, who will go door-to-door with the counting forms.
Under this initiative, BLOs have been tasked with providing enumeration forms to voters at their homes.
Claims and objections will be accepted till January 8 and all the claims will be settled till January 31 and the final voter list will be published on February 7.
