A woman is fighting for her life after being stabbed in the neck in what police are treating as an “unprovoked attack”.
West Midlands Police Called in Smallbrook Queensway, birminghamFriday after a report of a fire shortly before 9 p.m. knife,
The 30-year-old woman suffered “serious neck injuries” and is in hospital in a critical condition.
Police arrested a man in his 20s near the scene of the incident and he is in custody.
Detective Inspector James Nix said: “We believe this was an unprovoked attack and we are trying to understand why it happened.
“We will have officers in the area today to continue our investigation and provide reassurance.
“At this time we are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.”
In a statement released on Saturday, the force said: “A man is in custody following a stabbing in Birmingham last night.
“We were called to Smallbrook Queensway shortly before 9pm following reports of a stabbing.
“A 30-year-old woman was taken to hospital with a serious neck injury where she remains in a serious condition.
“A man in his 20s was arrested near the scene and is currently in custody.
“Our officers are carrying out inquiries at the scene and we are trying to establish what happened.”
